Grundsätzlich gilt für unsere Gemeinde: Jeder ist eingeladen und willkommen - unabhängig von seiner Rasse, seiner Nationalität, seiner politischen oder gesellschaftlichen Überzeugungen, seinem Geschlecht oder seiner sexuellen Preferenz. Jeder hat etwas beizutragen, damit unsere Gemeinde ein wahrer Spiegel des Antlitzes Gottes ist.

Die Deutschsprachige katholische Gemeinde am Kap ist die Gemeinschaft aller deutschsprechenden Katholiken (Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz und Namibia) und deren Familien, die im Bereich der Erzdiözese Kapstadt  wohnen. Damit sind natürlich auch viele Südafrikaner Teil unserer Gemeinde. Sie möchte denjenigen, die hier am Kap leben und arbeiten, ein Stück Heimat bieten. Aber das alleine wäre sicherlich zu wenig: Auslandsgemeinden wie unsere leben in einer fremden Umgebung, wo sie, speziell in Südafrika, Teilnehmer an großen gesellschaftlichen Umbrüchen sind und ihren Teil dazu beitragen müssen, damit dies auch gelingt. Hinzu kommt, daß es viele gemischt konfessionelle oder interreligiöse Ehen gibt - so wird unsere Gemeinde auch immer ein Ort des Dialoges zwischen den Konfessionen und Religionen sein. Unsere Gemeinde besteht aus unterschiedlichen "Gemeindegruppen": Da sind einmal die, die über Jahrzehnte hier leben und eigentlich schon in Südafrika verwurzelt sind. Eine andere Gruppe sind die Vertragsarbeiter, -lehrer, die auf eine bestimmte Zeit nach Kapstadt kommen und dabei wissen, daß sie in 3 - 5 Jahren wieder in ihr Heimatland zurückkehren müssen.
Hinzu kommt die Gruppe der Touristen, die kürzer oder länger hier leben und die Möglichkeit haben sollten, am Gemeindeleben punktuell teilzunehmen. Das ständige Kommen und Gehen trägt dazu bei, daß wir eine offene Gemeinde sind, die versucht, in Liturgie und Leben alle anzusprechen und die frohe Botschaft von der Liebe Gottes zu uns Menschen ganz praktisch werden zu lassen. Hier - in der "Fremde" wird Kirche als das erlebt, was sie eigentlich sein sollte: Wegbegleiter und Sinndeuter für die Menschen; eine Gemeinschaft, die sich gegenseitig stützt, weil jeder und jede sich in einer grundsätzlich ähnlichen Situation befindet - Hilfsbereitschaft ist hier nicht nur ein Wort.Die Gemeinde versteht sich als  "Brücke" zwischen den verschiedenen kulturellen Welten und den Menschen, die den Sprung wagen in eine andere Kultur; sei es nur zeitweise oder aber für immer.Der Nachteil der Gemeinde ist natürlich, das diese in einem Gebiet wohnt, das sich 400 km nach Norden erstreckt und 400 km nach Osten. Somit sind viele Strukturen, die in einer europäischen Gemeinde selbstverständlich sind, hier nicht möglich.

Unsere Gemeinde hat einen Pfarrgemeinderat, der zusammen mit dem Pfarrer über Aktivitäten und Wege der Gemeinde berät. In der Mediterranean Villa, die gleichzeitig Gemeindehaus,  und Gästehaus ist, finden die meisten Aktivitäten statt. Schwerpunkt pastoraler Arbeit liegt beim Einzelgespräch, der Sakramentenspendung, der Gottesdienstfeier und bei Einzelhilfen in verschiedenster Gestalt. Hinzu kommt der Kontakt mit Touristen und Besuchern, was durch das Gästehaus im Gemeindehaus natürlich einen starken Akzent gewonnen hat.
Kommunikationsmittel ist das alle zwei Monate erscheinende FORUM, das nicht nur neue Aktivitäten und Gottesdienste ankündigt, sondern ebenso berichtet über Wichtiges aus dem Erzbistum Kapstadt und der Weltkirche. FORUM ist auch für Nicht-Gemeindemitglieder erhältlich. Unsere Gemeinde lebt von der Kollekte, einer kleinen Unterstützung durch das Auslandssekretariat der deutschen Bischofskonferenz und ist ansonsten auf Spenden und die Einnahmen des Gästehauses angewiesen.

Everybody is invited and welcome - independent of his/her race, his/her nationality, his/her gender, his/her sexual preference, his/her political opinion. Everybody is invited to contribute to our community to create a place of love and understanding in the presence of God.

The German-speaking Catholic Community at the Cape Peninsula is the Community of all German speaking Catholics (Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Namibia) and their families living within the borders of the Catholic Archdiocese of Cape Town. Consequently quite a number of members are South Africans. To those living, working and visiting the Cape, we would like to provide the feeling of home. But that alone would sure not be enough: Foreign communities such as ours are located in a foreign environment, where we - particularly in South Africa - are participants of important social and political changes and we have to contribute our share to make this possible. Furthermore there are lots of interrelated marriages - such as mixed affiliations and denominations. So our Community will always be a place of communication and interaction between the denominations and different religious orientations.
Our Community consists of different groups. For once we have people living here for the most part of their lives, who belong here and have found a new home; on the other hand we have the contract workers, who only stay for a limited period of time and have to go back home after 3 - 5 years of service.

In addition to those groups we have a lot of tourists, who stay here for different periods of times and should also be given the opportunity to take part in the happenings of the German-speaking Catholic Community. Because of this constant arriving and leaving, we are an open community, who reaches out in liturgy and life to all people and our aim is to bring the message of God's love for the people into the daily live of everybody. Here - in the "foreign land" church can be experienced as what it should be: companion on the path of life and a help to achieve the meanings of life; a community with mutual support for each other, because we are all in the same boat, readiness to help is not only a spoken word for us. Our community is like a "bridge" between different cultures and traditions, connecting point for people who want to explore a different culture or want to connect with other people from these different cultural backgrounds.
Our community has a community council, who together with the chaplain discusses activities and ways in the community. The Mediterranean Villa serves as Community Centre and guesthouse and is the visible centre of all community activities. Many structures know from overseas are not applicable in such a situation. Pastoral work main focus points are counselling, sacramental celebrations, the Sunday service and case orientated help in a diversity of situations.

Contact to tourists is to add especially having a guesthouse within the community centre. Here church is really in interaction with people from all of the world and the variety of faith and believe.
Communication medium is the "FORUM", which is published every second month and informs about activities, times of Holy Masses and furthermore about matters of importance from the archdiocese of Cape Town and the church in general. FORUM is also available for non-members. Our community finances itself through the collection and a small subsidy from Germany, other than that we have to depend on donations and the income of our international guesthouse.
